mountain walking

Hotel Val Sinestra is situated in the middle of a walking area with well marked routes. With the information and local maps available in the hotel, you’ll be able to start out on your own literally on the doorstep. You can also take advantage of our different excursion programmes. And you can use the public bus service which operates between Val Sinestra – Sent – Scuol (where there is a train station).

The sky is the limit here in the Engadine. Mountain peaks vary between 2400 and more than 3400 metres. From the local mountain huts there are hiking possibilities to even greater heights. In the nearby Upper Engadine there’s the possibility to do a guided glacier tour or to admire the more than 4000 metres high Bernina Mountains.

The nearby Swiss National Park is a paradise for all kinds of animals and plants. The well marked walking routes, with various different starting points, offer possibilities on all levels.

There’s a fantastic walking route through the Lower Engadine called “Panorama Engiadina Bassa”. This diverse route is situated mostly above the tree line and so offers spectacular views. There are several possibilities in length and difficulty to do this route. Because the Engadine is near to both the Austrian and Italian borders, it’s possible to cross these, for example a walk from the Italian village Schlinig through the imposing Uina ravine to the Swiss village of Sur En.

mountain biking

For mountain bikers there are all kinds of different routes, from wide mountain roads to technically difficult single trails. You can hire mountain bikes both in the villages and in the hotel. This also goes for the so called “electric flyer”, with which everyone can discover the area by bicycle. And during peak season we organize weekly day trips to the Italian region of Vinschgau, where young and old can enjoy a 60 kilometres downhill cycling trail.

Watersports

The mountain river Inn is a paradise for wild water sports lovers. In Scuol there is a rafting base from where you can enjoy a spectacular boat ride on the fast streaming waters. Apart from an indoor swimming pool, Scuol also boasts an outdoor pool with mini golf, beach volleyball and a playground. And for those looking for total relaxation: The spa “Bogn Engiadina” in Scuol offers a variety of pools and saunas.

Other

You can find more challenges in the outdoor climbing park in Sur En or you can ride a scooter from Griosch to Vnà or down the mountain from the Motta Naluns Mountain station. And when you’d like to view the mountain from a vulture’s perspective, we can recommend a paraglide tandem flight.

During our popular cross country skiing weeks we guide you through our most beautiful trails and offer guidance for both beginners and the more experienced.

Skiing & snowboarding

Motta Naluns, Scuol’s winter sports area, ranging from 1250 to 2785 metres in height, with 80 kilometres of slopes and 14 ski lift routes, is a snow sure ski resort and descents to Scuol, Sent and Ftan are usually possible until March. The area is very suitable for families and beginners, but there are also plenty of challenges for experienced skiers and boarders in the shape of „buckel“ and black slopes. There are ski- and snowboard schools for all ages, a children’s area, a playground, a nursery for the little ones and there is a well kept “Fun park”. Our hotel bus takes you straight to the slopes.
